Government Links

The White House provides all the information you need on the executive office, you can even take a tour of the White House.

The U. S. Senate lets you search for a bill, contact your senator, or find more information on current legislative activities.

The U.S. House of Representatives Member Services allows you to search for your representative by state or name.

Thomas (as in Jefferson) is the government source for legislative information. Find out about pending legislation or search the Congressional Record.

U. S. Census Bureau is the source of demographic and economic information from the 2000 census.

Federal Election Commission covers all areas of campaign finance.

New Jersey Legislature can tell you everything you need to know about NJ legislation, from majority and minority offices to important legislative documents.

State Search is designed to serve as a resource to state government on the internet.

National Association of Counties connects you to information about counties and county government.

The U.S. Conference of Mayors offers a searchable listing of Mayors by name or city, and provides information about the activities of current Mayors.

Political Parties

Democratic National Committee is the central source of information for Democratic party members. Find out about your local party organization, what issues the Democrats are interested in and how to get involved.

Republican National Committee is the central source of information for Republican Party members. Read about the key republican issues and watch speeches by President Bush and GOP leaders.

Reform Party was once known as the Party of Ross Perot. Find out about more their membership, platform, and involvement in local elections.

Green Party was the Party of Ralph Nader in election 2000. Find out more about what they stand for and what the party is doing.

Participation, Activism and Community Service

Campus Outreach Opportunity League (COOL) is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to the education and empowerment of college students through community service.

Corporation for National Service will tell you about ways to get involved. Americorps, Senior Service, and Service Learning are just a few areas listed on this site, as well as information on government grants and internship opportunities.

Do Something is designed to help you take action and be more involved in your community. Choose your cause and read the action guide, or get your school involved in improving your community.

Kids Voting USA is a nonpartisan organization working with schools and communities to enhance civics education and provide a voting experience for kids on election day.

Project Vote Smart is a great source of reliable information about politics, candidates and campaigns. You can even register to vote online!

Third Wave Foundation provides resources to support the work of young women activists. They also sponsor networking programs to expand the knowledge and skills of young women working for social justice.

Volunteer Match will match you to volunteer opportunities in your community or around a particular issue. You can also post a request for volunteers for your organization.

Women in Community Service is dedicating to reducing poverty by promoting self reliance and economic independence. WICS provides support services, mentoring and workforce preparation programs nationwide.

The Younger Women's Task Force, a project of the National Council of Women's Organizations, is a nationwide, diverse and inclusive grassroots movement dedicated to organizing younger women and their allies to take action on issues that matter most to them.

Youth Action Net connects you with young people who are working to create change in their communities. This site also has great resources, including a library with toolkits on fundraising, media, and more!

Diversity in Politics

The American Indian Policy Center is a center for research, policy development and education on critical Indian issues.

Asian American Institute. The institute is a non profit organization with the mission to empower the Asian American community through advocacy, utilizing research, education and coalition building.

Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) was established in 1976 as a non-partisan, public policy, research and educational institute. The CBCF has worked to broaden and elevate the influence of African Americans in the political, legislative and public policy arenas.

Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund provides information on the current gay and lesbian candidates, what is going on in the news, upcoming events, and how you can get involved.

Human Rights Campaign (HRC) offers resources and information about critical issues affecting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans. You can use HRC's Action Center to send messages to your U.S. senators and representatives on the issues you care about.

Lambda Legal Defense Fund is a national organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, the transgendered, and people with HIV or AIDS through impact litigation, education, and public policy work.

LLEGÓÓ, The National Latina/o Lesbian, Gay Bisexual & Transgender Organization is a national nonprofit organization devoted to organize Latina/o Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) communities in addressing the need to overcome social, health, and political barriers faced due to sexual orientation, gender identity and ethnic background.

MALDEF The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund is a leading nonprofit Latino litigation, advocacy and educational outreach institution in the United States.

MANA A National Latina Organization, is a nonprofit, advocacy organization to empower Latinas through leadership development, community service, and advocacy.

The National Asian Pacific American Legal Consortium works to advance the legal and civil rights of Asian Pacific Americans through litigation, public education and public policy.

National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will give you information about current issues and events being addressed by the NAACP, as well as information about local branches.

The National Congress of American Indians is the oldest and largest tribal government organization in the United States. NCAI's mission is to inform the public and the federal government on tribal self-government, treaty rights, and a broad range of federal policy issues affecting tribal governments.

National Council of La Raza is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, organization established to reduce poverty and discrimination, and improve life opportunities for Hispanic Americans through applied research, policy analysis, and advocacy - providing an Hispanic perspective on important issues.

Race and Ethnic and Politics Online, an organized section of the American Political Science Association provides information about the field of Race, Ethnicity and Politics. An especially good resource for students looking for scholars or books on this topic.

South Asian Women's Network (SAWNET) has a comprehensive list of South Asian women's organizations worldwide, as well as articles and books by and for South Asian women. Get information on legal issues, news, charities, political organizations and more.

TurnOUT! is an intensive guide to gay and lesbian politics on the web.

Women of Color Resource Center is a non-profit education, community action, and resource center working on social justice issues that affect women of color.

Leadership Resources

Asian Pacific American Women's Leadership Institute (APAWLI) is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to expanding the leadership capacity, and creating a supportive network of Asian American and Pacific Island women. They offer one day and intensive training sessions on leadership skills for Asian American and Pacific Island women.

Center for Women's Global Leadership (CWGL ) is an invaluable source of research information and support for women interested in fighting for human rights and social justice.

Gannon Center for Women and Leadership at Loyola University offers leadership programs for women, a women's studies archive and a fellowship program.

Institute for Women's Leadership is a consortium of six women's programs at Rutgers University. IWL studies how and why women lead, and develops and promotes programs that prepare women of all ages to lead effectively.

Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics, Inc. LEAP offers leadership training, publishes original public policy research, and conducts community education to advance a comprehensive strategy of Asian Pacific American empowerment.

Latino/a Leadership Opportunity Program (LLOP) educates and trains undergraduate Latino and Latina students in policy and leadership skills. Selected students will receive a full year of public policy training regarding issues especially pertinent to the Latino communities.

National Hispana Leadership Insititute (NHLI) has developed a four-week intensive leadership training program which spans nine months and is implemented in four different cities in the United States.

PLEN, The Public Leadership Education Network offers a series of programs and internships in Washington, DC concerning women's leadership, politics and career development.

ABC's Political News Online Get your daily fix of Peter Jennings' political analysis without ever turning on the television.

CNN/All Politics The political experts from CNN and Time Magazine have teamed up to give you a permanent source for political news (including campaign coverage) on the web.

C-SPAN is your source for public affairs on the web. You can find information about current politics, the C-Span television schedule, and even watch C-Span's live coverage of the action on the floor of the U.S. House and Senate.

The Hill is the newspaper for Capitol Hill, it contains stories about the behind-the-scenes action in Congress and Washington.

MSNBC was the first television-internet joint venture. NBC news' presence on the web is always changing and provides on-going political coverage.

New York Times online is a great source of national and New York political news. This link takes you directly to the Politics section.

Roll Call is a leading source for congressional news and information. This site delivers leading stories, along with editorials, election news, commentary, cartoons and classifieds.

Salon provides the latest political news from the wire services, as well as biting political commentary.

Washington Post is the prime source from "inside the beltway". This site provides a variety of political information online, including hard news and lively commentary.

Women's Political Organizations

Emily's List identifies and supports viable pro-choice Democratic women candidates for key federal and statewide offices.

The Feminist Majority encourages you to Take Action. Their website provides various resources and contact information on feminist career centers, domestic violence, sexual assault, and women's health issues.

Independent Women's Forum (IWF) is made up of businesswomen, teachers, and homemakers, and others who promote individual responsibility, strong families, more opportunity, less government and policies that help all Americans.

League of Women Voters is a multi-issue organization whose mission is to encourage the informed and active participation of citizens in government and to influence public policy through education and advocacy.

National Federation of Republican Women is a grassroots organization working to advance the power of women through political access and participation in the Republican party.

National Organization for Women (NOW) encourages you to play a part in creating positive changes for women. At this site, you'll find everything from key issue discussions to membership information, news and local chapters.

National Women's History Project provides information and materials about women's history, and events and activities celebrating women's contribution to America.

National Women's Political Caucus is a national grassroots organization dedicated to increasing women's participation in the political process. The Caucus works to identify, recruit, train and support pro-choice women for election and appointment to public office.

Susan B. Anthony List works to recruit, train and offer financial support to pro-life women who run for federal office.

Women Action for New Directions WAND's mission is to empower women to act politically to reduce violence, redirect excessive military resources toward unmet human and environmental needs, and encourage women's leadership and bring more women into the public policy arena.

Women Leaders Online (WLO) is the first and largest women's advocacy group created on the internet, working to empower women in politics, media, society, the economy and cyberspace.

Women's Campaign School at Yale University is a non-partisan non-profit corporation which teaches women the political skills, strategies and tactics to run a winning campaign
