The NEW Leadership Development Network reflects CAWP’s commitment to creating a national infrastructure for public leadership education for college women.
In 1999, with a three year grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, CAWP began developing partnerships with colleges and universities across the country to help them plan and initiate NEW Leadership programs on their home campuses. Although the grant ended in 2002, interest in the Development Network continues to be high.
Each year CAWP select up to three institutions to join the NLDN.. Each partner institution selects two representatives to observe and participate in the NEW Leadership New Jersey summer institute. CAWP staff provides ongoing consultation and assistance to partner representatives after they return to their home campuses to plan their own state or regional NEW Leadership programs.
NLDN partners are committed to:
• strengthening networks with political women in their state;
• working with established women to educate, inspire, and empower
the next generation of women leaders;
• building a national network dedicated to increasing public leadership
education opportunities for college women;
• developing lasting partnerships with other institutions interested in
women's political leadership education.
Development Network partners are building bridges between women leaders in the educational and political worlds, and helping to fulfill the mission of NEW Leadership by adding their own expertise and making the program’s benefits available to college women across the United States.
